NCsoft and ArenaNet announced the exciting news of the Guild Wars Factions Championship in a press release on February 23, 2006. The Championship Series is open to all Guild Wars players, and at the end of each season, the top 16 guilds on the Guild Wars Ladder will compete in post-season playoffs for Guild Wars Factions Championship Points. The five guilds from around the world with the most Championship Points at the end of the three qualifying seasons, along with the winner of the upcoming Guild Wars Factions Championship Open Event, will be awarded a trip to the location of the Guild Wars Factions Championship, where they will compete for more than $100,000 in cash and prizes. About Leipzig
Leipzig is located near the eastern border of Germany, in the state of Saxony. It is situated at the confluence of three rivers, and boasts historical buildings and stunning natural features. Leipzig has a long history as a trade centre; the city and its surroundings form one of the fastest-growing economic regions in Europe today. The city became known as the Stadt der Helden (City of Heroes) for its leading role in the democratic East German revolution, which began in 1989 and eventually led to the fall of the Iron Curtain and to German reunification.
Home of such historical figures as Bach, Schumann, Wagner, and Goethe, the city’s proud heritage can be glimpsed down crooked alleyways or captured in awe-inspiring vistas. Dozens of historic buildings—some dating back to the 16th Century—dot the landscape, and the city centre offers tree-lined parks and squares, sidewalk cafes, and shops, as well.
Not everything is antiquated and historical in Leipzig. The city is very 21st Century in its hosting of several technology fairs, including the GC, Europe’s largest electronic game show. Leipzig features a multicultural atmosphere that permeates its city centre, day and night. In summertime, every street seems to become an outdoor café or beer garden. A stroll of the two-mile promenade that encircles the old city, tracing the route of its ancient city walls, offers a chance to take in much of what Leipzig has to offer.
